A werewolf, also known as a lycanthrope, is a human who transforms into a wolf or half-man-wolf creature. A human becomes a werewolf after being bitten by another werewolf. According to legend, the infected human turns into a werewolf during the full moon.
According to European folklore, werewolves have eyebrow that meet, curved fingernails, low ears and a swinging stride. A werewolf in human form can be identified by cutting their flesh and fur would be seen within the wound. Russians believe that a werewolf has bristles under their tongue. Unlike the movies, a werewolf in animal form are identical to ordinary wolves except that they have no tail and have human eyes and voice.
You can transform yourself into a werewolf if you’ve been bitten by another werewolf. Other ways of becoming a werewolf include wearing a wolf-skin belt when you’re naked, drinking rainwater from the footprint of a wolf, drinking from enchanted springs or even drinking special beer and reciting a spell. However, the easiest way to become a werewolf is to just buy a werewolf halloween costume…
Another folklore belief is that you can transform into a werewolf if you rubbed a magic ointment all over your body. Unlike the other legends, there may be some scientific basis as to how this belief came about. Long ago, before modern science, these so-called magic ointments may have contained a high dosage of hallucinogens, i.e. drugs which make you hallucinate or have delusions. As people rubbed this ointment on themselves, these natural drugs would be absorbed into their bloodstream and cause them to have hallucinations and imagine that they actually became werewolves.
In the late 1700s, there was a wolf-like creature who terrorized a county in France called Gevaudan. Many people believed that the creature was a werewolf or wolfman and called it the Beast of Gevaudan. Over 200 attacks were recorded and there was a massive effort by the villagers, soldiers and hired killers to capture and killed the creature.
Many people believe that werewolves are people who have been infected by another werewolf and are forced to change during every full moon. However, this is only a fictional belief. Apparently, during the 13th century, there was a lawyer and writer called Gervasius Tilberiensis who wrote about werewolves changing during the full moon. This was later picked up by modern fictional writers who began incorporating this into movies, novels and tv shows. Another fictional belief is that werewolves can only be killed by a silver bullet. However, this is also not true, as traditional folklore speaks of killing a werewolf by completely destroying either their brains or hearts.
Of course, if you ask me, the most convenient way to change into a werewolf is to get a either a Werewolf mask, Werewolf gloves or a Wolfman costume or Kids Wolf costume, and you’ll transform yourself into a ferocious werewolf in no time!
